About the Work
The entomology print delves into the concept of shifting baseline syndrome. This phenomenon describes how each generation perceives the environment they grew up in as normal, often overlooking the gradual but significant changes over time. This print highlights the imperceptible changes in our natural world, particularly insect populations in the UK.
The design features a range of insects that have become less common due to environmental changes. To highlight the loss of biodiversity and the subtle alterations that have gone unnoticed, I have included a robot bee within the design, symbolising a sinister shift to artificial pollinators as a ‘Plan B’.
